Everyone deserves to eat something special for a Sunday Morning Breakfast. I have rather fond memories of homemade pancakes, waffles and Winchell's Donuts that my mother bestowed upon me as a child. Of course I take those fond memories and I'm passing those along to my own family (at least on Sundays).
Here's a fall weekend breakfast for your Sunday morning... Spiced Apple Waffles.

Tender chunks of apple crowd the insides of these buttery waffles, along with a good dose of pumpkin pie spice.
See all of those apples inside there? They bake up inside your waffle iron just like apple pie. Apple pie waffles work for me.
My family gobbled these up like it was the last breakfast I'd ever make. Maybe it was an extreme longing for something homemade over those cardboard-tasting frozen things. I managed to sneak a bit of the batter aside and make a few extra waffles to throw in the freezer. They do freeze nicely, and they warm up in the toaster just like those Eggo-type waffles (but much better, of course).I vow to never buy frozen waffles again! Ok, well maybe never, but it's really just as easy to make up a bunch of these guys and freeze them than it is to get in the car, drive to Costco and store that gargantuan box in the freezer. At least I haven't been lured to buy frozen pancakes.
This recipe can be found HERE.
My boys would love these! I like that they have whole wheat pastry flour. Did you have any problems with them sticking?
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy kids always want the eggo mini's...and yes they are yuck!
Love all those apples in there.
Hi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteNope, they did not stick at all. They baked up perfectly. The whole wheat pastry flour worked great, and I loved that it added a healthy twist!
Of course spray the waffle iron with a bit of nonstick spray...
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are absolutely stunning. You have my stomach growling. I am without a fridge and cannot bake anything :-( I love this--saving this recipe for later.
ReplyDeleteThose waffles look great! They'd be perfect if anyone but me hung around here long enough on a Sunday morning to eat them! Hmmm. Don't know if that's good or bad.....
ReplyDeleteI just told my husband that I want a waffle maker! I'm gonna get one so I can make these!
ReplyDeleteThese look so good. I am guilty of buying Trader Joe's whole wheat waffles. My son could eat those every morning. I could eat these everyday!
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that they heat up well in the toaster. My mornings are stressed enough without having to think about making waffles. These look divine!
ReplyDeleteYou just can't buy them like that - let alone freeze them.
ReplyDeleteDelicious!
Oh come on, but those store brand waffles have cool things like Hot Wheels painted on them! (Reason my boys!) Or they're cool, they look like little pieces of toast, etc. blah, blah, blah.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE homemade waffles. My husband even bought me one of those industrial/hotel type waffle makers a few years ago. Love it!
These apple ones look SO good.
About my latest blog. The brownies would be a great holiday treat. They would be cute with colored holiday matching sprinkles on top, too.
Haven't tasted Nutella? It's good, but not good for you, so I try to steer clear of it. Still, I keep some around because my four year old won't even eat peanut butter, but will eat Nutella, and I figure whatever protein I can get in to him is good!
I'll have to check out your other Snickerdoodle goodies. My husband will probably like them.
We are total pancake people - but I imagine this would translate just as well to pancakes.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a Sunday morning! These just say "fall is here!" Yum-E!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Those look so good. I have a ton of apples to use up too.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't love those??? What a great idea...stuffing them full of other goodies!!!
ReplyDeleteOooooh - do those look delicious!! And there's nothing wrong with the occasional frozen waffle... especially when you make these on other days!
ReplyDeletemmmmmmm those look lovely! i love apples in waffles! whole wheat flour sounds like it would be perfect in these!
ReplyDeleteOMG..these look AMAZING! I dont have a waffle maker YET. It one of those things that I want but I dont think I will use that often!
ReplyDeleteBut your waffles might have made me change my mind!
OH MY!! the Yummy-ness on your site! I'm so glad to stumble across your website.
ReplyDeletedelish!
Oh baby, that stacks has me in awe...great shot!
ReplyDeletewaffles are my favorite thing to eat for breakfast. these look absolutely delicious! i can't wait to try them out :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to a diner, I want waffles. Homemade ones are just so special. I mean look at those Eggo ones, they are like oversized pizzelles or something.
ReplyDeleteLove your chunks of apples in there, so very awesome :)
Forget Costco's waffles, your house is the place to go for tasty waffles. My kids would love these. I am partial to any baked good loaded with pieces of fresh apples. Gorgeous pictures!
ReplyDeleteThese look SO good. I often make extra waffles and pancakes and freeze them in individually wrapped portions.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love waffles and these are out of control, hope to make them soon!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, I just made an apple pancake recipe. It's that time of year, huh? These look great--I will have to save them for another weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat time is breakfast being served, RecipeGirl?? What can I bring when I arrive?? ;0)
ReplyDeleteThose definitely make me wanna buy a waffle maker!
ReplyDeleteI used to have a recipe like this and have been trying to chase it down for years! I bet these are as good as we used to have, if not better! Thanks Recipegirl!
ReplyDeleteooooh yeah, these are the perfect fall breakfast. pour on that syrup! :)
ReplyDeleteWe'll be trying these out soon. My waffle iron is gathering dust. Fortunately we went apple picking on the weekend and have tons!
ReplyDeletethese are the kind of waffles that deserve an "ooo" and an "ahh". i would love to make these, but sadly i do not own a waffle maker. do you think they would work as pancakes?
ReplyDeletemysweetestday- I have to say that I've never adapted waffle batter to make pancakes so I'm afraid I can't give you advice there! I know that the boxed mixes out there give you an option of pancakes or waffles but I'm not sure how they differ. Wish I could help :(
ReplyDeleteOh gosh I would love a waffle maker after viewing these scrummy beautiful waffles of yours!!
ReplyDeleteRosie x
I burned my hand really bad on a waffle iron once and I'm kind of afraid to touch one now.
ReplyDeleteWho knew those things got hot?!
This recipe looks amazing - I'm very anxious to try it! I love apples in everything, and I never even thought of adding them to waffles! Yummy!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a waffle maker...I'm wondering how I could turn these into pancakes!
