According to Salary.com, if paid... a stay-at-home Mom in San Diego, CA would earn between $102,000 and $154,000 a year for her work as a mother. Is my husband reading this? The website lists all of the jobs that a mother does- you input your zip code, and it calculates accordingly. If you're looking for a something fun for to do for Mother's Day, you can actually print out or email a "paycheck" to give your mother (or spouse) for Mother's Day. Here's a little something for all the Mom's- working outside of the home or not- for your special day this weekend... And I've made a chocolate cake today in honor of my wonderful Mom and mothers everywhere. This chocolate cake feeds just TWO... for you and your mom. And it's especially good for those of you who are whining about needing to lose weight, because after the initial indulgence, you won't have any leftovers.
You're supposed to chill it, but I tore into this cake when it was still gooey and dripping with ganache. After chilling, it firms up and becomes more fudge-like. Because there's no flour in the recipe, this cake is not very cakey. I loved it. And my 6 year old partner in dessert-crime reported that it was a *major* restaurant-quality treat. This is the highest honor given to a recipe in our household!
Happy Mother's Day MOM! And to all of the other Mom's out there... I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend too. My plan is to relax, take a break from blogging & my obsession with Google Reader and spend some much-needed time with my family.
This recipe can be found HERE.

I've got a couple of friends I'll be forwarding your "salary.com statistic) to; it'll make the dinner conversations in their houses a little more interesting, I think. ;)
Mouth-watering photos. It's only 6:19 am, and I want some. Now.
Gracious that looks just delicious! Never thought about doing a square cake from a loaf pan! Great decoration on it as well!
Hee! My mom is the breadwinner, I wonder if I should print out a check for my dad :)
Great idea with the cake! I'd hate to make a giant cake and be forced to eat most of it after 3-5 people have eaten their part.
Happy mothers' day! :)
I'm not a Mom - but I fully believe being a Mom is THE hardest job in the world, and the most under appreciated.
That little cake looks incredible. I love mini-cakes, bc then they don't sit around tempting me every other millisecond of my day. :)
Happy Mother's Day! What a delicious post!!!
It looks delicious! Thanks for all the support on my new blog! I appreciate it especially since I admire your recipe site and it is one of my favorites.
mmmm talk about chocolate! if you like chocolatey fudgey desserts, try dorie's chocolate fudge gateau on my blog (we did it as part of a TWD)

This is completely sinful and beautiful. What a perfect Mother's Day treat.
Oooh, that looks like a delicious dessert for ONE. And I am excited to tell my husband how much I should really get paid!
i'll cancel all my career plans and become a mother asap if it means i'm entitled to a treat like this--it's phenomenal!
say, do plants count as children? :)
That cake looks so chocolaty and good! I like the use of the honey in the cake and frosting.
Love it! But I wouldn't share!
Rather than using the $120K base, why not calculate it based on a percentage of family income? Some of you women would hit that "glass ceiling" with the $120K.
Happy Mother's Day...enjoy the cake with mumsy and squeeze out all the pampering you can get!
Your mom's going to love that, it looks really delicious!
We had our mother's day back in March, I hope yours is just as wonderful - you can never spend too much time with your family.
Ohh yum! I need this one. I've got to make it just as soon as we clear out all the current sweets we've got around. Thanks for sharing this clever cake for two.
So beautiful!
There are 5 other people in this house, and one of them is going to be making that for me tomorrow. They just don't know it yet! hehehe!
I think I will be making that two person cake just for me! It looks great!
ahhhhhhhhh! All that chocolate!
Don’t you just love going back to old magazines, and getting excited as if you just bought them! I just found some in storage today; love it!
Statistics are sure to be rubbed in my hubby’s face tomorrow!
I have just calculated my earnings to be a little over $155,000!!!
Happy Mother’s Day!
Hhhhhm. 120K would buy me a lot of tennis lessons....or cookbooks! Lemmme' deliver that news to my husband tomorrow...when he delivers me breakfast in bed!!
That'll be the day, Sister! But, a fun thought.
Happy Mother's Day -- that cake looks really, really amazing. Cheers! Leah

Happy mother's day to you!! Maybe I should make one of these up tonight, even though I'm not a mother yet!!
Happy mothers day! it looks great!
Happy Mother's Day, RG! This cake looks deeeeeeeelish! Trylu scrumptious. Love the loaf pan-into-square cake idea!
It appears to be decadent, very chocolately and the perfect size. Great if Mom wants to splurge on her special day!
For two?? Surely not... ;-)
imma smack you this is so good looking!
that's amazing. what a great stat!
and though i'm not a mom, I think a rich cake for two will suit my husband and me quite nicely on some upcoming evening. omg yum!
Oh man that chocolate cake looks good! Nice decoration too!
Lori,
That looks absolutely incredible.
Love it.
Mary
happy mother's day to you too Lori! that cake really looks yummy, chocolate and strawberry, no less.
I heard that salary too but what got me was they said it was all the over time - that a mother works on average 95 hours a week. Well my kids are grown now but I worked more like 24 hours a day when they were young!
Its simply irresistible and lovely ! Very good post, indeed .
I love how little the batter looks in the pan, yet it ends up looking so decadently perfect on your plate! I'm bookmarking this for sure. Thanks for sharing :)
:P I think I'd dig tear right into it while it was still warm too!
I mean...how could one resist?
YUM! I prefer flourless cakes etc.... Much more rich to me. Looks fab.
Funny about the old Bon Appetits. I started my subscription in the late 80's myself! I'm old. I had them stacked up in a cupboard for years! My roommates thought I was crazy. Then one year I went through them alllllll and cut out the things I liked. Now that is what I do. It is still unorganized but doesn't take as much space.
Hello! I'm passing along an award to you and your wonderful blog! Check it out and pass this award along! http://mylifeisyummy.blogspot.com/2008/05/arte-y-pico-award.html
That looks sooo delicious! Anyone would be soo lucky to be part of your family. Hope you had a fabulous Mother's Day!!!
Wow! Looks very decadent. Love it.
This is amazingly sinful! I love it!
That's looks great - you're blog is really good to - it puts mine to shame :-(
This looks soooooo good! And since it's only big enough for two, it's not really cheating on my diet, is it?
Looks great! I've never seen salary.com, can't wait to check out out!
"Oh this looks devine"...said egghead while the drool drips out of the corner of her mouth.
fantastic idea!
leftover cake is a very bad thing to have around my house...
OMG! I am totally making this one! I love that I can indulge and not have it still hanging around afterward! :) Beautiful photos, too!
My, my, this looks heavenly! I can't stop drooling over the picture!
